Military Property Management in Northern Virginia

PCS orders can turn a homeowner into a long-distance landlord overnight.

You don't have to manage a Virginia rental from 1,000 miles away

You bought your home in Northern Virginia. Then your assignment changed, and now you live somewhere else while leaving the home behind. Managing a rental from another state is hard. Managing one from another country is harder.

If keeping the home makes sense, Command Properties takes over the local work while you focus on your new assignment. You’re the owner. We are your boots on the ground.

Before you PCS, start with the right plan

Turning your home into a rental goes more smoothly when the groundwork happens while you’re still here. Before you leave, we’ll walk through the practical details with you. Still not sure whether renting or selling makes more sense? We’ll talk through both.

What we cover before you leave

Built for a military rental market

Many Northern Virginia tenants serve too. Under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, a military tenant who receives PCS orders or deploys for 90 days or more can end a lease early. We plan for that possibility: we screen carefully, keep the home ready to show, and move quickly to re-lease when it happens.

We know the other side of the lease as well. Our team works with military families as owners and as tenants, and that experience shapes how we communicate with both.

Local management, wherever you are

Stationed across the country, deployed or working overseas, you’ll know what’s happening with your home. Monthly statements, your online owner portal and direct communication about tenants, maintenance and repairs keep you informed, and we check with you before decisions that need your approval.

When you're ready to sell, we already know the house

We love helping landlords. We also love helping them become ex-landlords. Many owners start with property management and sell years later, and because we’ve managed the home, we already know its history, maintenance record and condition.

When the time comes, we coordinate the tenant’s move-out, any updates needed to get it market-ready, and the sale itself, even if you’re out of the country.

Owners who've been where you are

Her company, Command Properties, has been outstanding in caring for and renting my townhouse in Alexandria, VA. … They are so devoted to keeping the place rented, picking out the best and most responsible tenants, screening pets for possible destructive behavior, and keeping me, the owner, fully informed on any decisions regarding maintenance or repair of the property.

Angie and her team were just wonderful to work with over the last 5+ years. They were incredibly responsive and always had the best interests of the property owners and renters at heart. Angie also helped me sell my property, which was also a smooth process.

Common questions

Yes. Managing homes for owners who live out of state or overseas is a core part of what we do. We handle the local work and keep you informed through monthly statements, your online owner portal and direct communication.

Marketing and leasing, tenant screening, lease preparation and renewals, move-in and move-out coordination, inspections, maintenance and repair coordination, rent collection, monthly statements and 24/7 emergency response.

The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act lets military tenants end a lease early when they receive PCS orders or deploy for 90 days or more. We plan for it, keep you informed and work to re-lease the home quickly.

There’s no universal answer. It depends on your finances, the property, your timeline and whether you expect to return. Our PCS Homeowner Guide walks through the trade-offs, and we’re happy to run the numbers with you.

We handle sales too. When you’re ready, we’ll coordinate the move from rental to sale, including the tenant’s move-out, any preparation and the listing.
